Ubuntu flash player shows blank pages in Firefox and Chrome–An inelegant workaround

This is a sledgehammer approach: I don’t like it, but it does work.

First install wine if you haven’t already. Open a terminal and:

sudo apt-get install wine1.5 winetricks

then

wget http://download.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/17.0.1/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%2017.0.1.exe

this will download the firefox installer into your home directory

Then find the file “Firefox Setup 17.0.1.exe”, left click on it and run open it with wine. Follow the prompts toinstall the windows version of Firefox 17 which runs flash just fine.
