Restarting Samba and Other Programs/Services in Ubuntu Lucid-Natty

Restarting Samba

Open a new file with gedit, kate, or nano and enter the following code:

service smbd stop
service nmbd stop
service smbd start
service nmbd start

Save the file to your home directory, calling it something like “restartsamba”. Then make the file executable, by browsing to the file, right clicking and selecting preferences and checking the executable box. Alternatively open a terminal and:

sudo chmod +x restartsamba

From that point on you should be able to open a terminal and restart samba with:

sudo ./restartsamba
