Remove Global Menus for Ubuntu Trusty 14.04

One of my favorite changes with Ubuntu 14.04 release is the ability get rid of the Global Menus. The Unity default puts Application windows menus at the top of the screen in the Global Menu Bar. I never liked that.

To enable menus in the application window title bar:

  • Click on the gear on the upper right of the screen.
  • Then go to System Settings and click Appearance and open the Behaviour tab
  • Under ‘Show the menu for a windows’ section, click on ‘In the window’s title bar’

That’s it. You don’t even need to re-login.
